So you mean the sonologist had an erroneous reading? Actually, it depends on how early the reading is. For instance, if the reading is in the first trimester the sonologist might mention a "probability", which means that if she's not totally sure of the gender, he or she might say like there's an 80% chance that the baby is a boy or a girl. Of course, it is recommended that the mother go for succeeding ultrasounds to confirm that but if the mom didn't, well it's not the sonologist's fault then/
It's a rare case because erroneous succeeding readings may put that sonologist's licence in jeopardy.
