My baby is going to have physiological jaundice. Can someone tell me more about that?
I am 37 weeks pregnant and I can’t wait to see my baby. My friend told me that every baby has physiological jaundice. Every day they are telling me that my baby is healthy and now he is going to have jaundice right after he is born? Is this jaundice contagious? Is there a chance my baby will not get jaundice?

Yellow colored skin is from the yellow pigment of bilirubin that is coming from the torn hemoglobin, the pigment that is giving red color. Newborn babies do not catch contagious jaundice, this is physiological jaundice and it is part of the physiological process. Two or three days after the birth, the skin of about 20% of the full term born and 50% of the prematurely born babies is a little yellow in color. In that case we are talking about physiological jaundice, which is normal and occurs when the organism of the baby is adapting to the external conditions.
