Infection is one of the more serious complications after a C-Section and can be very painful. Fortunately, treating a C Section infection is fairly easy. Infection may occur at the incision site or the uterine tissue, requiring different treatments.
Treating a C-Section Infection
Always watch your c-section incision and look for signs of swelling, redness or pus. If these symptoms come with fever, abdominal pain and chills, infection is likely present. Your doctor can culture the area with a swab to check the type of bacteria present. Next, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics, which should take care of any bacterial infection you have. If the would reopens and gets infected, you’ll probably need another surgical procedure along with a treatment of antibiotics. Sometimes oral antibiotics will work but an IV may be required. Make sure you take your entire prescribed dose of antibiotics for the required period of time to make sure the infection is completely cleared up and won’t reoccur later.
