An assisted vaginal delivery means your doctor will use a device or tool to help your child get out of the birth canal. It’s typically recommended when you’re too tired to push anymore or your baby’s almost out but their heart rate isn’t as good as the doctor would like.
What is Vacuum Assisted Delivery?
Vacuum assisted delivery is a delivery assisted by a vacuum device. Your doctor will apply a rounded cup to the baby’s head in the birth canal which is connected to a suction pump. This creates a vacuum pressure that holds the cup on the baby’s head. You’ll push while the doctor pulls carefully on the handle of the cup to move the baby’s head down and then out of the birth canal.
