A non stress test is a simple procedure that’s used to check for signs of fetal distress. It’s commonly done if you have a high risk pregnancy or you’ve noticed decreased movements from your baby.
When Do I Get a Non Stress Test During Pregnancy?
This non invasive test is usually ordered in the third trimester. It can be done any time after 24-26 weeks of pregnancy but it’s most common in the last month. It may be combined with a BPP, or biophysical profile. There are a few situations that may cause your doctor to order a non stress test, including:
- Multiple gestation
- Preeclampsia
- High risk of preterm birth
- Decreased movement from the baby
- Other high risk pregnancies
